They are sown broadcast in the open air as soon as they ripe. Seedlings are transplanted in autumn or spring to their permanent position. Their roots strike down deeply into the ground and so the plants are grown in dry, sandy soil. They do well on rough banks. Drying Broom Broom bloom is an excellent flower to dye. These are dyed before drying. Immersion dyes are used for dyeing broom blooms. These flowers are cut when flowers are completely opened. Collect them and make small bunches. Tie each bunch with a thread or rubber bands. Hang them upside down in dry, dark, open, airy place. When completely dried remove them and preserve them carefully. Uses Dried brooms are used as an preeminent flower of the dried arrangements in wreaths, bouquets, and baskets. It is a favorite dried flower filler. Broom tops are dried and infused with boiling water for treatment of several diseases. The dried leaves are used as medicines. In early times these flowers were pickled and preserved in salts and eaten as capers.
