Cotton Flower Botanical Name: Gossypium hirsutum

Cotton is a perennial plant that does not die in the fall. Cotton plant simultaneously produces vegetation and fruiting structures. A cotton fruit begins as a small flower bud or square which flowers about 21 days after it reaches the size of a pinhead. A new bloom is white the first day and turns to red the second day.

Cotton grows on well drained, crumbly soils that can keep moisture well. After a flower blooms, it falls after three days leaving behind a small seed pot known as boll. Each boll contains about 30 days.
