Fox Tail
Botanical Name: SetariaBloom Time: July- October Uses: Attractive seed heads Fox tail is a hardy annual herb with fibrous roots. The stems are upright and usually unbranched. They have elongated leaves and flowers borne in spikelets arranged in a spike like panicle. Seed heads develop on tall flower stalks. Uses Dried Fox tail is beautifully used in dried flower arrangements in several forms including wreaths, garlands, baskets, etc. It is commonly used in cooking for flavoring meat. It is also used to make tinctures and infused oil or concoctions. Poultices are made out of dried fox tail to prevent infection and hasten healing. The dried leaves are excellent materials for weaving floats and rafts. They also make a good stuffing for pillows. Fox tails are as popular for their medicinal properties as for the decorative purposes.
