Botanical Name: Drosera IntermediaCommon Name: Sundew Origin: East Africa This carnivorous plant is found growing in muddy edges of ponds, bogs and rivers. It is a small herbaceous perennial, aquatic plant with short and slender fibrous root, from which grows the leaves. Their leaves are orbicular on long stalks, depressed, lying flat on ground and have on upper surface long red viscid hairs. What is more interesting about the leaves is its exclusive ability to dry naturally in insufficient sunlight. It can also be dried by air-drying and by placing the leaves in any desiccating material for few weeks. Uses Dried spoon leaves are used in dried flower arrangement. Dried spoon leaves are used by the best chefs to flavor foods before and after cooking. It is of greatest value in the treatment of spasmodic chest conditions such as whooping cough, bronchial and asthma. It is also prescribed for gastric problems and can be used as infusions.
